We’ve focused on a lot of positives the last few weeks and rightly so, not much point try to make the glass seem half empty, but lets be honest – this was a disappointing weekend.
Put quite simply we’ve no victories to report on and we want to win. We want to develop players, see the club thrive, have great fun along the way – but winning is important too so lets all roll the sleeves up, come back stronger and get back to winning ways.
The M1s failed to defend 188 at Muckamore in the Premier League when the game looked very winnable as the hosts were firstly 57 for 4 and then 115 for 6 in reply, but we couldn’t get the job done. Scorecard HERE
The Irish Cup game at Balbriggan was eventually washed out which was a travesty for the home side who were miles in front, but we’ll take it with both hands, knowing we’ll have to be a lot better moving forward to take the season deeper with big cup and league games ahead.
The M2s departed the Junior Cup at a windswept Mallusk having failed to chase down a modest BISC target of 157 – having the hosts 43 for 5 and on the ropes, we couldn’t find the knockout blow. An experienced batting line-up should have done better, albeit conditions were tricky to say the least, but it was a fairly tame effort in the end. Scorecard Here
The M4s and 5s both suffered what can best be described as ‘character building’ 8-wicket defeats (still worth shouting about fielding these teams though) and on Sunday morning the W1s ran into a strong Waringstown side that had too much fire-power with the bat, as they ran up a massive 212 total and ran out easy winners.
But all is not lost, we have good new too, as four players hit milestones in their respective games – 17 year old Evey Keenan hit her maidan senior fifty for the ladies whist Stevie Saul made his first for the club at Moylena.
14 year-olds Jacob White and Daniel Kinnear both hit the same milestone when scoring their first ‘fifties’ in adult cricket for the 5s – well done to all of these who performed admirably amongst the carnage!
