We are delighted to announce the signing of Kian Hilton for the 2025 season! Kian had an impressive 2024, where he played for Cliftonville Academy, scoring 470 runs and taking 25 dismissals as a wicketkeeper. His aggressive top-order batting style, combined with his solid wicketkeeping, makes him a perfect fit for North Down’s ambitions for the upcoming season.
Kian’s cricketing journey has already seen him make an impact at both the domestic and international levels. Although born and raised in South Africa, he represented Ireland in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2024, where he had standout performances, including a crucial 90 against Bangladesh and a key innings of 72 in Ireland’s historic victory over New Zealand. Ireland’s eighth-place finish was their best-ever in the tournament, and Kian’s performances played a significant role in that achievement.
Beyond the World Cup, Kian also played for the North West Warriors in the interprovincial competition, adding to his experience and versatility. His ability to perform in a variety of formats and at different levels of competition speaks to his potential, and we believe he’s only going to get better.
Chairman Dean McDonald shared his excitement about Kian joining the club: “We’re really pleased to have Kian on board for 2025. He’s a talented and aggressive young player who already has experience in the NCU and on the international stage. His positive attitude and commitment will bring real value to the club, both on and off the field.”
Kian himself is looking forward to settling into his new club and making an impact: “I’m really excited to be joining North Down for 2025. Scoring 122 at The Green last season was a highlight for me, and I can’t wait to call it my home ground. I’m also really looking forward to working with Tyron Koen, who’s not only a great cricketer but a fellow South African now based in Northern Ireland. I’m eager to get started and contribute to what’s shaping up to be an exciting season.”
North Down is shaping up well for the 2025 season, with the exciting additions of TK and Aditya Adey complementing Kian’s signing. With these key players on board, the club is looking forward to a competitive and exciting season.
