Entering the Final Straight

Colin McCaughey non stop groundsman

Things are beginning to take on a slightly ‘end of season’ feel but there is still plenty to play for, and a dry weekend forecast!

Two defeats on ‘Black Sunday’ (new name for a Sunday with two defeats) has left the M1s with a seemingly lost cause in the PL, but such is the nature of that league that a win at Wallace Park tomorrow would most likely keep interest alive for a week or two yet. Realistically they would probably need to win all five remaining games to be in with a shout but you never know…

Bret Mulder has stepped down from his position with the 1stXI and has been replaced on an interim basis by James Shannon, who we wish well between now and the end of the season.

Whilst the M2s chase as high a finish as possible in J1 with third place in sight, its the M3s who really need a couple of good wins to finish and the rub of the green to get into the promotion slots in J4.

Last Friday night the youth section organised a successful fundraiser for the Jersey Tour which will this week see a travelling party of 45 head to the Channel Island for a series of youth games, boys and girls, against the host nation – full report next week, with updates on social media as the week progresses.

The U15s suffered bowl-out heartbreak when losing to CACC for a place in the All-Ireland semi-final, as if it was needed some further motivation for when we finally get on the field for the Graham Cup final this month!

‘Groundforce’ Dines was busy at The Green giving the pavilion exterior a ‘spruce up’, place is looking well!

We have a ‘Save the Date’ for our August 2024 NDCC Community Open Day, B&C Festival in old money, which will take place on Sunday 25th August, usual rules apply.

And last, but by no means least, the M5s visit Roughfort on Sunday for a glamour tie with CACC and it is rumoured that a certain former Chairman, current Treasurer and club Trustee will make his seasonal debut/long overdue comeback – skipper Heron will no doubt have the club physio on standby!

Joking aside – what a fantastic resource for the young 5thXI players to tap into, a former 1stXi captain and inter-provincial player with a vast knowledge of the game. Good luck Ian and 5s!
