And so, it begins…

Finally we have seen action at The Green as the 2nds (186 in 35 overs) comfortably defeated a Downpatrick XI by 88 runs.

Back: R Galway (c), H Coulter, G Anderson, D Parker, W Adams, R Haire; Front: J McClure-Dalzell, J Shields, J Parker, L Hayman, J Corbett

In truth the cricket was almost secondary, as those involved both playing and non-playing simply enjoyed what the summer season down Castle Lane is all about – some cricket to watch, kids playing on the sidelines and a smattering of supporters enjoying a cold drink in the sun. Ah perfection!

For the record, Hammy Coulter (47 ret), Ryan Haire (36) and Skipper Galway (32) scored the runs and Kiwi debutant Liam Hayman (3), Billy Adams (2) and Jacob McCD (2) took the wickets.

You can see Ian Shields’ photo gallery from the match HERE.

A few busy days for the grounds team had the place in good order and hopefully the ‘better’ weather will continue allowing the top ground to be next to fall into line.

In the latest edition of Dines’ Diaries, we’ve seen the upgrading of the stumps, further paintwork completed, the ‘squaring’ of the square and a well earned pint of Guinness. Keep up the good work mate!
