William (Billy) Dale

A true veteran still playing into his seventies Billy has made major contributions on and off the field of play. His first season was 1975  when the 1sts were relegated but he played on the Section 2 league winning sides in 1977 and 1979.  He won a Senior Challenge Cup winner’s medal in 1981 and was not back at The Green until 1995. In 1998 the side won Section 2 and bounced back into the top flight to win again in 1999, the first senior league 1 win since 1936. He was a Challenge Cup winner again in 2000 and a member of the Double winning team in 2001. After another league winner’s medal in 2002, he moved to Instonians and missed the plethora of League and Cup wins that followed. He returned to The Green in 2017 making a big contribution to the 2nd XI in their League and Cup wins and adding all his experience and know how to coaching the ever increasing number of young players.  At the top of his game he caused the best of batsmen trouble being very difficult to score freely off.  In his later games for the junior sides he acquired a batting skill unseen in his early days and to this day relishes the opportunity to bat up the order.

Billy was honoured with the club Presidency in 2022
